Type Of Pronoun Errors Agreement

B has an error with the derie in the number: “your” is plural and cannot be used with “one person.” C cuts the precursor all together and creates a sentence that makes no sense. In general, if one of these indeterminate pronouns is used to designate something that can be counted, then the pronoun is plural. Pronoun`s errors of agreement occur when the pronoun you use to “defend” a noun does not agree with that nobiss in number, place or gender. Take a look at the second half of my first sentence: “People often abuse pronouns, especially when we talk.” Who is “we” refers here: “People.” The good pronoun for the plural of the third person, however, is that they. The good version is “People often abuse pronouns, especially when they speak.” Here we have the pronoun “we” for the nomin “a buyer.” This may seem okay, because it makes sense that we can be buyers, but there is a disagreement in the number: “we” is plural and “a buyer” is unique. Here are nine pronoun-antecedent agreement rules. These rules refer to the rules found in the verb-subject agreement. The sentence should be rewritten by replacing the pronoun with a name: make sure your pronouns are not like this llama. (© Valdrec) It should be clear to whom or what the pronoun represents. If you have a sentence in which the precursor of the pronos pair is unclear, your reader will probably be confused.

Take the following example: In the example above, the pronoun “It” in the second sentence is vague because it has no precursor. In the first sentence, however, there are possible precursors. To fix the sentence, replace the pronoun: if the two nuptials are precursors and are plural, the reference pronoun will also be PLURIEL. As written, the underlined part of this sentence uses two different possessive pronouns, “you” and “one,” none of which corresponds to the precursor, “one person.” Choice D has a similar error – it uses both “you” and “one” when a given sentence can use “you” or “one.” But if we put this precursor back into the sentence, we get: “The Golden Notebook immediately established itself as one of the most important literary voices of its generation,” which clearly makes no sense. It was Lessing, not her novel, that was established, so the right pronoun would be “she.” A contains the error, so that`s the right answer. In the SAT letter, you are expected to acknowledge many such errors. We will cover both the basic SAT writing rules regarding the pronouns you need to know and the frequent errors you will see on the test: the agreement of pronouns personally is a slightly stranger concept than matching in the number, but it is usually quite easy to detect.
